Benefits from Ittihāf Al-Uqūl [2]
Benefit [2] from Ittihāf Al-Uqūl (A Gift to the Intellects) – An Explanation of “The Three Fundamental Principles” by Al-‘Allāmah ‘Ubayd al-Jābirī (رحمه الله)
[Knowledge is a Proof For You or Against You]
Al-Allāmah ash-Shaykh ‘Ubayd ibn ‘Abdullāh Al-Jābirī (رحمه الله) stated:
So, knowledge, when accompanied by the correct action under its proper conditions, is a proof for the servant before Allāh (عز وجل).
When knowledge is combined with correct action, along with the two previously mentioned conditions¹, that knowledge becomes a proof for the servant before his Lord.
But if the knowledge is devoid of action, then that knowledge becomes a proof against the servant, and the person resembles ‘those who earned Allah’s Anger’ — the Jews — who were so named (‘those who earned Allāh’s Anger) because they did not act by their knowledge.
And if action is not based upon knowledge, then that is ignorance and chaos in worship, making the person resemble the Christians, because they worship Allāh based on ignorance and misguidance.

¹ The two conditions are:
1. Sincere intention for Allah alone (al-Ikhlās), and
2. Pure adherence to the guidance of the Messenger of Allah (al-Mutāba‘ah).
