Good Character May Surpass Financial Generosity

Al-‘Imām As-Sa’dī (d. 1376H) رحمه الله said::

This (good character) in itself is a form of good deed that may surpass financial generosity. “You will not be able to encompass the people with your wealth, but let your good character encompass them”.¹

So, whenever both affairs (good character and financial generosity) are combined (in a person), that is perfection. And when financial generosity is absent, good character and kindness through good conduct and good speech can take its place. Perhaps, it may have a greater impact on a person than the benefit of wealth.

قال الإمام عبدالرحمن السعدي (رحمه الله):ـ

وهو بنفسه إحسان قد يزيد على الإحسان المالي «إنكم لن تسعوا الناس بأموالكم، ولكن ليسعهم منكم حسن الخلق»¹. فمتى اجتمع الأمران فهو الكمال، ومتى فقد الإحسان المالي ناب عنه حسن الخلق والإحسان الحالي والمقالي، فربما صار له موقع أكبر من نفع المال.
